Sundargarh: A couple sustained critical burn injuries in Bapas Chamber Colony under Bonai police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Monday while cooking food.
The victims have been identified as Shivaji Lakra and Anita Lakra. Shivaji is an employee of OMC in Khandadhara, while Anita is a homemaker. They were living in rented accommodation in Bapas Chamber Colony under Bonai police limits in the district.
According to reports, Anita’s clothes caught fire while cooking this morning. Hearing her cries, Shivaji rushed to save his wife but his clothes also caught fire. Both were critically injured in the incident.
Their family members rescued Shivaji and Anit and rushed them to a nearby hospital for treatment. As the woman received about 80 percent burn injuries, the couple was shifted to the Rourkela Hospital after preliminary treatment.
While it is yet to be ascertained how Anita caught fire, Bonai police have launched an investigation into the tragic incident.
