Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance Court in Cuttack has convicted Subash Chandra Mishra, a retired Block Development Officer (BDO) of Lefripada Block in Sundargarh district, in a case related to the possession of disproportionate assets.
Mishra has been sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fined Rs 50,000. In case of default in payment, he will face additional imprisonment as per court orders.
According to an official press release, the case was investigated and charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, which deals with the possession of assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
Following a detailed trial, the court delivered its verdict today. Odisha Vigilance has stated that it will approach the competent authority to initiate the process for stopping the pension benefits of the convicted official, in accordance with rules applicable to public servants convicted in vigilance-related cases.
