Sundargarh: Sambalpur police on Sunday picked up a bridegroom while he was on his way to the bride’s house for marriage. The incident occurred under Bamra police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
According to reports, the bridegroom, identified as Bishnu Pinga of Khokpada under Burma police limits, was in a live-in relationship with Sanju Kirkita. The two had a child who is now 5 years old. However, Bishnu severed all relationship with Sanju after the birth of the child and left for Chennai after two years. Sanju tried to contact Bishnu over the phone, but the latter did not attend to her calls.
Bishnu returned to his village a week back to marry another girl. When Sanju learned that Bishnu was marrying another girl, she approached the Gobindpur police on March 16 pleading them to stop Bishnu’s marriage with another girl in Dharuadihi. Acting on her complaint, police picked him up on Sunday while he was on his way to the bride’s village.
He was subsequently taken to the police station and interrogated by the police. The police also seized the car in which he was going for marriage.
