Bhubaneswar: Senior officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), Susanta Kumar Purohit, an IRSEE officer of the 1996 batch, assumed the additional charge of Chairperson of the Paradip Port Authority (PPA) on Tuesday, following an order issued by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India.

Purohit, who is currently serving as the Chairperson of the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, will take on the additional responsibility of overseeing the affairs of the Paradip Port Authority.

Purohit has held several important positions during his career and has extensive experience in administration, engineering, infrastructure development, policy formulation and public-sector management.

Before his present assignment, Purohit served as Joint Secretary in the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Government of India. In this role, he was involved in policy formulation and sectoral development.

His appointment comes at a time when Paradip Port continues to play a key role in the country’s maritime and logistics sector. The port is one of India’s major ports and handles substantial volumes of cargo, including coal, iron ore, crude oil and other commodities.

The Paradip Port Authority welcomed Purohit’s appointment and expressed confidence that his experience and leadership would help strengthen the port’s operations and contribute to the country’s maritime growth.

“PPA looks forward to his leadership and valuable experience in further strengthening the Port and advancing India’s maritime growth,” the port authority said in a post on X.
