Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha continued to experience rising temperatures, with multiple towns recording maximum temperatures above 35°C, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
Industrial town Talcher and Bhawanipatna emerged as the hottest locations in the state, both recording a maximum temperature of 39.0°C. Close behind were Jharsuguda and Sonepur at 38.2°C, followed by Bolangir at 38.0°C. Angul also reported a high of 36.7°C, while Sambalpur recorded 36.4°C, indicating intensifying heat conditions across western and interior Odisha.
The capital city Bhubaneswar registered 35.3°C, slightly above normal, while Cuttack reported 34.6°C. Coastal towns such as Balasore (32.5°C), Chandbali (33.2°C), and Paradip (31.5°C) remained relatively cooler due to maritime influence.
Among other notable readings, Rourkela recorded 36.2°C, Sundargarh 35.0°C, and Baripada 34.0°C. Koraput and Phulbani, located in the southern and hilly regions, recorded comparatively moderate temperatures of 34.5°C and 34.3°C respectively.
Minimum temperatures across the state ranged between 18°C and 24°C, with places like Rayagada (18.0°C) and Phulbani (18.0°C) witnessing cooler nights, while coastal and urban centres such as Bhubaneswar (21.2°C) and Cuttack (20.4°C) experienced relatively warmer conditions.
The data indicates a clear west-central heat concentration pattern, with interior districts recording higher daytime temperatures compared to coastal regions. Weather experts suggest that such temperature gradients are typical during the pre-summer transition period and may intensify further in the coming days.
