Brahmapur: Five hundis at the famous Tara Tarini Temple in Odisha’s Ganjam district yielded Rs 25,91,743 during counting held on Tuesday, with foreign currency notes and coins also found among the offerings, officials said.
Three foreign currency notes and seven foreign coins were found in the hundis during the counting, they said.
Gold and silver ornaments, including gold and silver eyes, were also found among the offerings. Emotional letters written by devotees were also recovered from the donation boxes, officials said.
The counting was conducted in the presence of Tara Tarini Temple Executive Officer Binod Behera. Officials from Purushottampur Tahasil were also deployed during the process.
In the previous counting, the temple had received Rs 7,17,540 from its hundis.
Officials said the money collected from the hundis would be used for the development of the temple.
The Tara Tarini Temple, dedicated to Adi Shakti, is located on the Kumari Hills on the bank of the Rushikulya River near Purushottampur in Ganjam district.
