Nabarangpur: An assistant teacher of Dokrikote Primary School under Chakalapadar Panchayat of Jharigaon block in Nabarangpur district died in a road accident on Saturday evening.
The deceased, identified as 54-year-old Hanumant Gouda of Dabirimunda village, had travelled to the school in the morning to teach as usual.
According to sources, after the school day ended, Gouda was returning home around 5 p.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle near a culvert close to Bhejiguda village. The vehicle skidded off the road, plunging nearly 15 feet below.
The impact left Gouda with grievous head injuries, and he was found bleeding from the nose and ears. As the spot is relatively isolated, the accident went unnoticed for a long time until passers-by from Bhejiguda discovered him and informed his family.
With the help of Dabirimunda villagers, family members rushed him to the Community Health Centre in Jharigaon. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The news of his death cast a pall of grief over the locality. Large numbers of teachers and Cluster Resource Centre Coordinators (CRCCs) gathered to pay their final respects to the deceased educator.
