Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at Pandua village under Ramachandrapur police station in Keonjhar district, following a fatal attack on a villager by another youth from the same village, reportedly due to a previous enmity.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, prompting the authorities to deploy large police force for security reasons.
A young plumber from Pandua village was attacked with a stick on his way home on Tuesday evening and died on the spot. The angry villagers retaliated by setting afire the attacker’s house and detaining the fire department team that arrived to extinguish the flames. A group blocked the road placing the victim’s body which escalated the tensions further.
The victim’s relatives clashed with the opposing group, leaving three people seriously injured. They have been hospitalised. Despite efforts by Ramchandrapur police to calm the situation, tensions continue to prevail.
