Rourkela: A total of 153 infants, who had been left to their fate by their parents, are now bringing smiles to the faces of many couples and families around the globe.
In the last five years, a total of 21 children from Sundargarh have been adopted by foreign couples. Similarly, 132 children have been adopted by couples from the state and outside the state.
The address of these motherless children, who were abandoned, has changed. They have a new identity. The children have been adopted by couples from Italy, America, Spain, France, Singapore, Luxembourg and Malta and different states of India including Odisha.
Not only do they get love and respect from the childless foreign and non-resident Indian couples who embrace them, but they also look forward to a brighter future.
The Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) has changed the fate of these children of Sundargarh. Childless couples have adopted them through CARA from Disha, a licensed Specialised Adoption Agency located at Bisra in Sundargarh.
According to the the Chairman of the District Child Welfare Committee, between 2016-17 and 2021-22, 153 motherless children rescued from abandoned places were brought up in Disha. As per all the policies and guidelines of the government, these children were handed over for adoption to couples from foreign countries and other states.
