Bhubaneswar: Three fishermen from Baleshwar district are among 15 people feared missing in Bay of Bengal. Their fishing trawler disappeared in rough waters off the West Bengal coast.
The trawler named ‘Maa Kali’carrying a total of 15 fishermen had departed from Shankarpur Fishing Harbour in West Bengal on Sunday. It reportedly went missing after facing strong waves.
The rough sea conditions were triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. The three missing fishermen from Baleshwar belong to Uluda village. Uluda village is located under Bhograi block.
They have been identified as Rabindra Majhi, Jagannath Majhi and Jayaram Majhi. The remaining 12 fishermen on board are from West Bengal.
The Digha Fishermen and Fish Traders Association informed Digha and Mandarmani marine police stations about the incident.
Following the alert, search operations were launched. A helicopter is also being used to trace the missing fishermen.
