Bhubaneswar:  The Odisha state government has constituted three independent teams to investigate the incident in which 58 people, including 27 children, fell ill after consuming Dahibara in Patapur village under Dasarathapur block in Jajpur district.

The cases were reported on Friday evening after villagers consumed the popular local delicacy from a vendor. Soon after, many developed symptoms of vomiting and fever, prompting their admission to the Dasarathapur Community Health Centre (CHC) and the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

As of Saturday, 21 patients have been discharged after treatment, while the remaining continue to receive medical care. Health Minister’s Visit and Assurance

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling visited the Jajpur DHH to personally assess the condition of the affected individuals.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “Fifty-eight people, including 27 children, were admitted to hospital. Preliminary reports suggest it was due to consumption of ‘dahibara’. We have collected the food and water samples and sent those for testing.”The Minister also shared an update on X (formerly Twitter), stating that Jajpur District Collector Ambar Kumar Kar visited the District Headquarters Hospital, met with the patients, and inquired about their well-being.

Mahaling announced that the state government has formed three separate independent teams to thoroughly investigate the incident. The teams are expected to examine possible causes, including food contamination, hygiene standards of the vendor, and water quality in the area.

“The government is also taking necessary steps to ensure that the sick individuals under treatment receive the best possible medical care,” the Minister added.
