Three-Member Technical Team To Probe Cuttack Bridge Mishap

Bhubaneswar: The State Government has constituted a three-member technical committee headed by the Engineer-in-Chief to probe the under-construction bridge accident in Cuttack that claimed three lives, including a site engineer.

Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan visited the construction site in Cuttack and informed that the government had formed a technical team to probe the accident.

“A three-member team headed by Engineer-in-Chief Laxmikant Padhi will probe the circumstances that led to the accident. The Chief Engineer and ADM General will be part of the probe panel. The three-member technical team will submit the inquiry report within 15 days. Whoever is found guilty, action will be taken against them as per the rules,” Harichandan said.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the next of kin of the three persons killed in the tragic bridge collapse incident. The compensation will be disbursed from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Expressing profound grief, the Chief Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. The CM also ordered free treatment for the injured.

Three persons were killed after a slab of an under-construction bridge collapsed in Khannagar, Cuttack. The incident occurred during the construction of a bridge in the area. Initially, five people were injured, of whom three died and two were seriously injured. All the injured have been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital. The deceased include site engineer Soumya Ranjan Behera, Shiba Shankar Patnaik, and Subhash Chandra Bhakta
