Bhubaneswar: Three Members of Parliament from Odisha — Bhartruhari Mahtab, Aparajita Sarangi, and Sasmit Patra — are part of the Indian Parliamentary Delegation attending the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), being held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from April 5 to 9.
The 12-member delegation is being led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who will address the Assembly during the high-level segment of the general debate on the theme “Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice”, according to a press release by the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
Other members of the delegation include Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh and MPs Anurag Singh Thakur, Vishnu Dayal Ram, Ashok Kumar Mittal, Kiran Choudhry, Lata Wankhede, and Bijuli Kalita Medhi. The Secretary-General of Lok Sabha, Utpal Kumar Singh, and Secretary-General of Rajya Sabha, P. C. Mody, are also part of the delegation.
During the event, the Indian delegation will participate in various forums, including meetings of the IPU Governing Council, Executive Committee, Standing Committees, and thematic panel discussions.
On the sidelines of the Assembly, Om Birla is also scheduled to engage with his counterparts from other national parliaments to discuss issues of mutual interest. Additionally, he will meet members of the Indian diaspora and Indian students in Uzbekistan, the release stated.
