Bhubaneswar: A man, his wife, and their daughter were killed after being run over by a speeding container truck near Jagmohanpur on National Highway 49 under the Telkoi police limits in Keonjhar district on Wednesday early morning.
The mishap occurred when a speeding container hit the motorcycle they were riding on.
The victims have been identified as Tankadhar Patra, his wife, and their daughter of Bahadapashi village under Barkote police limits in Deogarh district.
According to reports, Tankadhara and his wife were heading to drop their daughter off at school on a motorcycle when a speeding container came from the opposite direction and collided with them with great force. The impact was so severe that all three family members died instantly on the very spot.
Meanwhile, Telkoi police have launched an investigation into the accident and have reportedly seized the container near the Jashipur toll gate. The driver of the container is still at large, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him.
Following the mishap, locals took to the streets and blocked National Highway 49, demanding immediate action against the reckless driver responsible for the mishap. The protesters also called for improved road safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
