Bhubaneswar: The Forest Department officials arrested three poachers and seized a significant cache of explosives and hunting equipment allegedly used for wild boar poaching at Sirli village under Komana range in Nuapada district.
The operation was carried out based on intelligence inputs, highlighting the growing concern over the use of dangerous methods for hunting wildlife in forested areas.
The sleuths seized six country-made bombs, 55 metal spikes, sharp-edged weapons like axes, and bird snares, along with a quantity of wild boar meat during the raid. The explosives, reportedly used to kill wild boars, posed a serious threat to both wildlife and human lives.
Three poachers, identified as Antaram Majhi, Tejaraj Majhi, and Indramani Majhi, were arrested from the site and later forwarded to court under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and the Explosives Act.
Mohammad Mustafa, ACF, confirmed the seizure of boar meat and explosives, as well as the arrest of the three individuals. The operation underscores the Forest Department’s efforts to protect wildlife and prevent poaching in the region.
