Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in several districts of Odisha over the next few days, with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds of up to 30-40 kmph likely in parts of the state on October 7 and 8.
According to the evening weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, at 6.30 pm on Sunday, isolated light to moderate rain or thundershower activity is likely in Baleshwar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput and Malkangiri during the next 24 hours, while dry weather is expected elsewhere.
On October 5-6, similar isolated rainfall activity is likely over parts of northern and southern Odisha, including Baleshwar, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Ganjam on October 5, followed by Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundargarh, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj on October 6.
The weather system is expected to become more active from October 7. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh, where thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places.
The yellow warning will continue into October 8, when thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundargarh, Debagarh, Anugol, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.
On October 8, light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely at a few places in several northern and central districts, while isolated activity is forecast over Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri.
For October 9-10, isolated rain or thundershower activity is forecast over several coastal and adjoining districts, including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.
The IMD said maximum temperatures are likely to show no large change during the next three to four days and subsequently fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged during the next six to seven days.
For Bhubaneswar and adjoining areas, partly cloudy skies are likely over the next 24 hours, with the maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 35 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The IMD has issued no weather warning for fishermen along the Odisha coast from October 4 to 8.
