Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department on Thursday issued a nowcast “yellow” warning for several districts of Odisha, cautioning about thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds over the next three hours.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, thunderstorm activity is very likely to affect one or two places in districts including Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Khordha (including Bhubaneswar city), Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Dhenkanal.
The weather office warned that wind speeds may reach 30–40 kmph and could gust up to 50 kmph during the thunderstorm activity.
Residents in the affected districts have been advised to remain alert, keep a close watch on weather conditions, and be prepared to move to safer locations to avoid lightning strikes and other hazards.
The ‘Yellow’ warning, issued at 5.45 PM, falls under the “Be Aware” category, indicating the possibility of localized weather disturbances that may cause temporary disruptions.
