Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an orange warning for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, forecasting moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rain during the next three hours.
According to the nowcast issued by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, at 7.10 pm, the weather activity is very likely to continue at most places over the two cities during the period.
The IMD advised people to stay updated with official weather forecasts and advisories and carry umbrellas or raincoats while venturing outdoors.
It also advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and refrain from walking or driving through waterlogged roads, as the depth and current of the water may be difficult to judge.
People have also been advised against taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms. The weather office urged residents to keep electronic devices and electrical appliances away from water and immediately report any fallen power lines.
The public has further been advised to wear waterproof footwear to minimise the risk of slips and infections.
