Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a nowcast warning for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds accompanied by light to moderate rain over 12 districts of Odisha.
The nowcast warning, issued at 1:45 pm, stated that thunderstorms with lightning, gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph, and light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in 12 districts within the next three hours. The districts likely to be affected include Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
The IMD has advised people in these areas to remain vigilant and keep a close watch on the changing weather conditions. Residents have been urged to be ready to move to safer places to protect themselves from the risk of lightning strikes.
People have been advised to avoid open fields, tall trees, water bodies, and metallic structures during the thunderstorm period and to strictly follow all lightning safety precautions.
