Thunderstorms And Strong Gusty Winds Expected In 14 Odisha Districts Tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for several Odisha districts for tomorrow, forecasting intense thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong gusty winds.

According to the IMD, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nayagarh districts.

A yellow warning has also been issued for several other districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur during the afternoon or evening hours over Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabrangpur, and Rayagada districts.

Additionally, hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail at isolated places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.

“Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 50-60 kmph) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak,  Kendrapara, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda,  Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,  Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Gajapati”, read the IMD’s forecast for June 10. These districts have been issued an orange warning.

Besides, the regional weather office has predicted thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 40-50 kmph) in the afternoon or evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Deogarh, Sonepur, Nuapada, Balangir, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Sambalpur,   Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabrangpur, Rayagada.  These districts are under yellow alert.

Additionally, hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh for June 10.

The IMD has advised people in the affected areas to remain alert and exercise caution. Citizens have been urged to avoid standing under trees during thunderstorms and to secure loose objects that could be blown away by strong winds. Farmers and those working outdoors have been asked to take necessary precautions.While the thundershowers may bring some relief from the prevailing heat, they may also cause minor damage to property and standing crops in vulnerable areas.
