Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain To Hit Odisha Tomorrow, IMD Issues Alert

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for several districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty surface winds reaching 40–50 kmph, and heavy rainfall likely to occur at one or two places on June 11.

According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many places across districts in South Odisha, and at a few places in North Odisha tomorrow.

The IMD has also predicted a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph, along with heavy rainfall likely at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal on Wednesday.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are also very likely at one or two places in the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Balangir, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur.

In addition, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, and Boudh on June 11.

In addition, the IMD has warned of hot and humid weather conditions likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.

Looking ahead, a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds (30–40 kmph) has also been issued for various districts of Odisha from June 12 to June 17.

The IMD further stated that no significant change in maximum (daytime) temperatures is expected across the state over the next six to seven days.
