Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in several districts of Odisha during the next five days.
The midday bulletin of the weather office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershower at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts and in one or two places in the remaining parts of Odisha till 8.30 am on Monday.
According to the IMD, a thunderstorm with lightning is very likely at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak districts of the state.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to continue in some places during the next two days despite the intensity of monsoon decreasing.
A yellow warning of a thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts for August 30. In addition, light to moderate rain or thundershower is predicted at a few places in interior Odisha and in a few places in the coastal districts.
On August 31, a thunderstorm with lightning is likely in one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.
