Baripada: An eight-month-old female tiger cub rescued from Kaparkhai village under Thakurmunda range of Karanjia forest division has been released inside the core area of Similipal Tiger Reserve for acclimatisation, the Forest Department said on Sunday.
The cub, rescued on September 25, was provided veterinary care at the Thakurmunda range office campus, where it was given feed and nutritional supplements for seven days.
The animal showed significant improvement in health during the period and became active, the department said.
Blood and faecal samples collected from the tiger cub were tested at Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT). The test results confirmed that the animal had no disease or infection.
Following the health assessment, the cub was transported on October 2 and released at around 9 pm inside the Jamuna enclosure located in the core area of the tiger reserve for acclimatisation.
The Forest Department said the female cub is active and moving inside the enclosure.
A decision on releasing the tiger into the wild will be taken based on its progress during the rewilding process, it said.
