Cuttack: Cuttack Rural Police have arrested seven persons of the gang which was allegedly involved in looting Rs 1.67 crore from an ATM cash refill van near Godijharia under Tigiria police limits in the Athgarh area of Cuttack district on November 10, last year.
Police have seized Rs 64.45 lakh cash from the possession of the accused persons. Police have also seized three knives from their possession.
Mihir Kumar Panda, SP, Cuttack (Rural) has informed that two employees of the ATM cash van had planned the loot.
Panda said that the two ATM cash van employees had lost a lot of money to online gaming and had decided to loot the cash van.
These two cash van employees had given ‘supari'(contract) to a professional criminal—Kalim Khan of Tigiria police limits to loot the cash van, the SP said.
However, the two employees of the cash van are yet to be nabbed and police are making all-out efforts to nab them, the SP added.
Panda said that as per plan the cash van employees informed Kalim Khan about the movement of cash in the cash van and its route.
As planned Kalim’s gang looted the cash from the ATM cash van, he said.
Kalim and his gang members hail from Pankal village under Tigiria police limits, which is hardly 5 Km from the spot where the robbery occurred.
Kalim and one of his associates have several cases against their names., he added.
Panda further said that the involvement of others in the conspiracy cannot be ruled out.
