Bhubaneswar: Tigress Zeenat, which was brought from Maharashtra’s Tadaba-Andhari tiger reserve, is in good health and has successfully hunted a wild pig within her enclosure, informed the authorities of Similipal Tiger Reserve.
According to officials, tigress Zeenat successfully made her first kill, taking down a wild pig inside the soft release enclosure at approximately 10 pm. Following the hunt, she fed on her prey and then quenched her thirst before settling in for rest.
The tigress is under 24/7 surveillance by a specialised team since her arrival. If her condition continues to improve, she will be released into the core area of Similipal in a few days, where she will be able to roam freely.
Notably, the three-year-old tigress was translocated from Tadoba Forest in Maharashtra and placed in a soft enclosure at Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district on November 13.
In a related update, Tigress Jamuna, who was also brought from the same tiger reserve, was released into the core area of Similipal on November 9. She is now living in the heart of the forest alongside 28 other rare melanistic tigers.
