Bhubaneswar: Phiringia police arrested a person on charges of killing his father with a hammer after the latter reprimanded him for his drinking habits and coming home late at night.
The deceased has been identified as Dakena Digal while the accused son is Suraj Digal. Both Dakena and Suraj are residents of Lamapada village under Phiringia police station in Kandhamal district.
Suraj was arrested after his mother registered a complaint.
According to the complaint, Suraj had returned home late at night in an inebriated state, which led to an altercation with his father. Dakena had reprimanded Suraj for his late-night drinking habits, which infuriated the son. In a fit of rage, Suraj allegedly attacked his father with a stick, causing fatal injuries.
Dakena writhed in pain, but the enraged son didn’t stop. He repeatedly hit his father on the head with the hammer. As a result, Dakena died on the spot.
When Suraj’s mother heard the commotion, she rushed to the scene, only to find her husband dead. She then went to the Phiringia police station and filed a complaint against her son.
Based on her complaint, police arrested the accused Suraj and recovered the body.
