Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions persisted across Odisha on Thursday, with several western districts recording temperatures above 40°C, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department’s Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

Titilagarh and Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest places in the state, both recording a scorching 43.7°C and 43.6°C respectively, closely followed by Sambalpur at 42.2°C, Boudh at 40.3°C, and Sonepur at 40.6°C. Other areas such as Talcher (40.0°C) and Malkangiri (40.0°C) also experienced intense heat.

The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 35.3°C, while Cuttack registered 35.4°C. Coastal districts like Puri (33.2°C) and Gopalpur (31.9°C) remained relatively cooler under maritime influence.

In northern Odisha, Balasore recorded 35.0°C, while Baripada reported 36.6°C. Angul touched 39.7°C, indicating rising temperatures in interior pockets as well.

Minimum temperatures across the state hovered between 21.8°C and 28.3°C, with Jagatsinghpur recording the lowest minimum at 21.8°C. Humidity levels remained high in coastal and adjoining districts, contributing to discomfort despite relatively lower daytime temperatures.

Rainfall activity remained largely absent, with most stations reporting no rainfall in the last 24 hours. However, Talcher recorded 8 mm rainfall, and Nayagarh reported trace precipitation.

The IMD has indicated that such heatwave conditions are likely to persist in parts of western and interior Odisha, with little relief expected in the coming days.
