Koraput: A trailer truck overturned and caught fire at the Jodimadili ghat under Ralegada Panchayat in Pottangi block of Odisha’s Koraput district on Wednesday. The driver had a narrow escape and was reported to be safe.
According to sources, the trailer truck, bearing Andhra Pradesh registration, was en route to Visakhapatnam on National Highway No. 26. It had earlier passed through Arakku, Nandapur, Semiliguda and Pottangi while traveling through Odisha.
The mishap occurred while the vehicle was negotiating the steep curves of the ghat road. The driver stated that the brakes failed, leading to a bursting of the pressure pipe, which subsequently triggered a fire in the vehicle. As a result, the truck lost control, overturned, and was engulfed in flames.
Local residents rushed to the spot after noticing thick smoke and flames rising from the ghat section. Fire services were alerted and efforts were made to control the blaze. However, the trailer truck suffered extensive damage.
An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
