Bhubaneswar: The prime accused in the recent transgender murder case, Krishna Kandi, was injured in a police encounter near Pipili Bypass, a few metres away from Bhubaneswar city today. The incident occurred when police, who had been investigating the case, raided a location to arrest Kandi.
According to reports, Kandi, hailing from Konark area in Puri, attempted to escape by opening fire at the police. The police retaliated, and Kandi suffered bullet injuries in his left leg. He was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody.
The accused has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment. The police had been under pressure to solve the case, following a protest rally by fellow transgender members demanding justice for the victim.
