Bhubaneswar: The transport department has collected over Rs 2 crore in fines from 12,155 e-challans issued to traffic rule violators in the first four days of the ‘Zero Fatality Fortnight’ (ZFF) campaign.
The department has taken a strict approach against violators, with 3858 e-challans issued for speeding and 3213 for not wearing helmets. Additionally, 2921 e-challans were issued for not wearing seat belts, 498 for using mobile phones while driving, 135 for driving under the influence of drugs, 628 for carrying more than two people on a two-wheeler, 236 for driving in the opposite direction, and 666 for illegal parking.
Sundargarh district has topped the list with 1180 e-challans, followed by Bhubaneswar-1 with 840 challans, Cuttack RTO with 791 challans, Talcher RTO with 741 challans, Bhadrak with 719 challans, Jagatsinghpur with 632 challans, Rayagada with 555 challans, Angul with 520 challans, Kalahandi with 462 challans, Jajpur with 397 challans, and Ganjam with 339 challans.
The ZFF campaign, launched on Sunday, aims to curb road accidents and enhance road safety through a multi-faceted approach focusing on enforcement, education, road engineering, and emergency care.
Not only enforcement, but a comprehensive awareness program has also been taken up by all the RTOs. The Commerce and Transport Department has appealed to the public to always follow the road safety rules, which are part of this great campaign to reduce road accidents.
