Bhubaneswar: The Transport Department on Monday gave 150 tabs to Odisha Police to record the details of motor vehicle accidents under Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) project.
Principal Secretary Commerce and Transport Department Bishnupada Sethi handed over the tabs to Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal.
Speaking at the event, Bansal said, “Data is the key to finding the root cause of road accidents in the State. These tabs will enable the collection of accident data on the spot by the investigating officer and facilitate the timely exchange of information. This will help to establish an accurate and uniform accident data collection mechanism towards improving road safety in the State.”
These tabs will be used by the investigating officers of roadside police stations to maintain a database of road accidents. It will be easy for an investigating officer to enter the required information in a tab instead of filling the form manually.
“Police and Transport department can work cohesively to reduce road accidents in the state. Accident data will help us to analyse the problem and find a solution accordingly,” said Sethi speaking on the occasion.
Among others, Arun Bothra, Transport Commissioner, Srinibas Behera, Additional Commissioner Transport (Admin), Dhananjaya Senapati, Additional Commissioner Transport (Tech), Lalmohan Sethi, Additional Commissioner Transport (Road Safety), Sanjay Biswal, Joint Commissioner Transport (Road Safety) and Bikash Chandra Choudhury, RTO, Bhubaneswar-I were present at the event.
