Tribal Woman Hacked To Death In Keonjhar On Suspicion Of Practicing Sorcery

Keonjhar: In what can be dubbed as medieval barbarism, a tribal woman was reportedly hacked to death in Nialijharan village under Ghashipura police limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Sunday night on the suspicion of practicing sorcery.

The deceased woman has been identified as Salke Hembram.

According to reports, the gruesome incident occurred when Salke Hembram, wife of Mohan Hembram, was at the house along with her mother-in-law Sumi on Sunday night. The other family members had gone out to attend a community feast. Finding the two women alone in the house, an unidentified person came to their house and dragged Salke away of the house. Later, the miscreant hacked her to death.

As none of the family members, including Salke’s husband, reported the matter to police, her brother Ghanashyam came from Khadupada village and informed about the Ghashipura police about the brutal incident.

On being informed, police swung into action and a team led by Anandapur SDPO reached the village and launched an investigation. A scientific team has also reached the village and started collecting evidences.

Since the villagers are silent over the murder, it is suspected that the woman was murdered on the suspicion of practicing sorcery.
