Bhubaneswar: Truck drivers will now get free tea at dhabas and eateries along the national highways in Odisha to arrest sleepiness caused by driving fatigue during the night in a bid to curb accidents causing loss of life.

The Transport Department has directed dhaba and eatery owners along the national highways in the State to provide free tea to truck drivers during the night to curb accidents.

This was informed by Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu at a presser here today.

“Especially, truck drivers drive at night by staying awake. Our department has issued a directive to every dhaba and hotel along the national highways to provide tea free of cost to drivers of trucks and allow them to take 5—10 minutes of rest to break their sleepiness,” Sahu said.

The Minister hoped that all would cooperate in this endeavour keeping with the Chief Minister’s motto: Every Life is precious.

She informed that truck terminuses are coming up in every district along with restrooms alongside highways and major roads.
