Narsinghpur(Cuttack): A tusker with gunshot injuries has been noticed roaming in the Chatrapada forested area under Narasinghpur tahasil limits in Cuttack district.
Local villagers upon seeing the wounded elephant have reported the matter to the Forest Department.
They claimed that the tusker has three gunshot injuries on its body.
Forest Department personnel have reached the spot and efforts are underway to tranquillize the injured tusker for treating its wounds.
It is pertinent to mention here that a few months back another tusker was found critically injured by poachers in the Jaipur section of Narsinghpur East Forest Range under the Athagarh Forest division.
As the tusker’s wound had got infested with maggots, it was moving around in the forest groaning in excruciating pain.
Later, the elephant had fallen into a canal and was unable to move out.
On being informed by locals, Forest Department personnel treated the elephant with the help of veterinarians.
Despite all efforts, it could not be saved.
