Bolangir: As many as 20 youths fell ill after playing Holi allegedly with toxic colours at Kantabanji in Bolangir district.

They were admitted to Kantabanji Community Health Centre after they developed complications allegedly due to chemicals present in colours used during Holi celebrations.

A day after coming in contact with the colours, they complained of nausea and giddiness and had to be rushed to hospital

They also complained of irritation in the eyes and itching.

Police are looking into the matter and trying to find out the source of the Holi colours.

Even though Holi is unquestionably a time for celebration and unity, people should recognise the risks associated with chemical-laden colours. Bright, artificial colours may seem appealing and increase the spirit of celebration, but it’s important to understand the risks of applying them on the skin, said a doctor.
