Bhubaneswar: In a significant anti-drug operation, Phiringia police on Monday arrested two persons and seized 60 kg of ganja at Ganjukhol village under Phiringia police station limits in Kandhamal district.
The arrested have been identified as Sudam alias Jitendra Sahani, a resident of Badabhuin village, and Bhaskar Karn of Kanibali village. A case (No. 43/2026) has been registered under the relevant sections of the law.
According to police, acting on credible intelligence, a team from Phiringia police station, led by the SDPO, Sadar, intercepted an illegal consignment of narcotics in the Ganjukhol village area. Upon spotting the police, the accused attempted to flee, but both were apprehended on the spot.
During the operation, police seized 60 kg of ganja along with the autorickshaw used for transporting the drugs.
The arrested drug peddlers are currently under police custody and are being interrogated. Investigations are underway to trace the source of the narcotics and dismantle the larger network involved in the supply chain.
