Baripada: A tragic incident occurred in Mayurbhanj district, where two bikers were critically injured after a huge stone fell on them from Thakurani ghat near Bangiriposhi police station.
The accident happened while road widening work was underway on National Highway 49, with a Gujarat-based company executing the Rs 135 crore project.
The two men, dressed in traditional attire, were riding a motorcycle from Baripada to Sadeikala in Jharkhand when the rock fell on them. Two other men nearby were also injured.
The victims received primary treatment at Bangiriposhi Community Health Center before being shifted to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital in Baripada. One of the injured has been further shifted to Cuttack General Hospital due to deteriorating condition.
Police have reached the spot and are investigating the incident, alleging arbitrary work by the contractor led to the accident. The absence of a supervisor from the construction company at the time of the incident has raised concerns.
