Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar police have cracked down on two separate cybercrime cases, arresting two individuals who allegedly cheated people out of lakhs of rupees.
In the first case, Pramod Kumar Mohanty was arrested for promising to pay 7% more interest per month on investments. The accused had set up a fake company called Vaishnav Enterprises and cheated a complainant out of Rs 12 lakh. The police have seized Rs 8,39,900 from two accounts linked to the accused and have frozen the amount. Several items, including mobile phones, a cheque book, debit card, PAN card, and rubber stamp, were also seized from the accused.
According to DCP Jagmohan Meena, the police are investigating to arrest more accused involved in this case.
In another incident, Anil Kumar Das was arrested for cheating people out of lakhs of rupees by promising to secure government jobs. Two complaints had been filed against him at Maitri Vihar police station and Mancheswar police station, alleging cheating of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh, respectively. The police are taking further action in both cases.
