Puri: Two people died after a boat capsized in Chilika Lake on Sunday. The deceased persons have been identified as Rakesh Swain, a medicine shop owner, and Soumendra Mohanty, manager of a pharmaceutical company.
Reportedly, around 13 persons from Puri town area had gone to Kalijai island near Gambhari village under Krushnaprasad block of the district for a picnic. During their return, the boat lost control and capsized in Chilika Lake.
While 10 persons were rescued by locals, three other passengers of the boat had gone missing. However, one of them, identified as Ugrasen Das of Gambhari village, managed to swim to safety.
Locals with help of fire personnel continued the search for the missing two. Finally, the fire personnel fished out the bodies of the missing persons. Police have sent the bodies to Puri for post-mortem and have detained four persons for interrogation.
