Malkangiri: Police on Sunday arrested two persons on Sunday on charges of gang-raping an elderly woman (63) and killing her at a village in Odisha’s Malkangiri district last month.
The body of the elderly woman was found near the panchayat store room at Korukonda in the district on November 5. On being informed by locals, the police launched an investigation into the incident.
During the probe, police examined the call record of the deceased woman and took the help of a scientific team. They zeroed in on two youths, identified as Kamalu Nag (38) and Rakesh Dhali (30) and learnt that the two had committed the crime on the night of November 4 after visiting the Mandei festival in Khairput block; SDPO Sachin Patil told the media today.
One of the accused was regularly speaking to the woman over phone. He called her to a place near the local pump house and sexually assaulted her. When she raised an alarm, the duo strangulated her and threw the body near the panchayat store room.
