Two Held With Brown Sugar

Bhubaneswar: Police seized 258 grams of brown sugar worth around Rs 25 lakh and arrested two persons from Chhannagiri Chhak under Jankia Police Station in Khordha district on Monday.

The arrested persons are both males, aged 20 and 22 years, were intercepted following a tip-off received by police about the movement of drugs on a blue Royal Enfield motorcycle.

Acting swiftly, Sub-Inspector Tusar Kant Parida and his team stopped the vehicle on the highway at around 7 am and recovered the contraband.

Khordha D.I.G.-cum-SP Sagarika Nath stated that the arrests are part of the state government’s intensified drive against drug trafficking under the mission “Ama Sankalpa, Nisha Nuhen Jibana,” launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on May 31. Several awareness programs are currently ongoing to curb illicit drug trade.

The suspects have been taken into custody and forwarded to court after necessary legal formalities.

Investigations are continuing.
