Jajpur: The Jajpur Excise Department has arrested two persons and seized 60 grams of brown sugar, estimated to be worth around Rs 6 lakh in the market, during a raid in Jajpur town, officials said.
Acting on intelligence inputs about illegal trafficking of the narcotic substance, an Excise team conducted a raid at the ground near the administrative building and apprehended the two accused. A motorcycle allegedly used in the transportation of the contraband was also seized.
The arrested persons were identified as Jiban Kumar Sethi and Santosh Kumar Behera, both residents of Balipokhari village under Bhandaripokhari police station in Bhadrak district. Cases have been registered against them under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and they were produced before a court, officials said. Further investigation is underway.
