Balasore: Two junior mines officers were beaten up when they went to seize a stone-laden truck in Dandharipur village of Soro police station in Balasore district. The officers, Jagannath Das and Sambit Kumar Mani, had received a tip-off about the illegal transportation of stones in the village.
According to reports, a scuffle broke out among the villagers when they were informed about the presence of the mines officials. The officers were attacked when they tried to seize the vehicle, and they had to flee the scene, abandoning the truck.
Jagannath Das filed a complaint at the Soro police station, and the police have launched an investigation into the incident. The police have also seized three trucks loaded with stones from the area.
The incident has been linked to the activities of stone mining mafia in the area, who have been threatening mining officials and snatching vehicles carrying stolen stones.
