Mayurbhanj: A driver and a helper of a truck were killed when their vehicle plunged into a canal at Bangriposi in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday late night. According to reports, the accident occurred on the National Highway No 18 near Jagannath Khunta Chhak in Mayurbhanjdistrict.
The goods-laden truck was on its way from Baripada when the driver lost control of the wheel and the vehicle fell into the 20-foot-deep Subarnarekha Canal. The driver and the truck helper got stuck inside the vehicle after the vehicle fell into the canal. As a result, both died on the spot.
On being informed, police and Fire Services personnel reached the accident spot and rescued the bodies of the driver and the helper by cutting open the door of the truck. The bodies were then sent for postmortem. The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
The two deceased were from Srikakulam area in Andhra Pradesh.
