Bhubaneswar: Two persons were killed in a severe head-on truck collision near Dharmashala Chhak under Attabira police limits on the Bargarh–Sambalpur National Highway on Thursday night.
According to reports, the trucks were traveling from opposite directions when they collided. The impact was intense, leaving both vehicles completely mangled and trapping the drivers inside.
Local residents immediately alerted the police and Fire Services. Rescue teams from Attabira Police and the Fire Services rushed to the spot and, after considerable effort, managed to extricate the drivers and their helpers from the wreckage.
The injured were initially taken to a nearby hospital for primary treatment. However, given the critical nature of their injuries, they were later shifted to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla. Unfortunately, both drivers succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.
The accident caused temporary disruption of traffic on the national highway. Authorities later cleared the damaged vehicles, restoring normal traffic flow.
