Jharsuguda: Two persons were killed and two others sustained critical injuries after two motorcycles collided head-on near Barkhandia Football Ground under the Brajrajnagar police limits in Jharsuguda district on Saturday evening.
The accident took place at around 6 pm when the two motorcycles crashed into each other with considerable impact. All four riders suffered serious injuries in the collision.
Local residents rushed to the spot, alerted emergency services and shifted the injured to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital in an ambulance. Doctors declared two of the injured dead on arrival. The remaining two victims are undergoing treatment, and their condition is stated to be critical.
The identities of the deceased and the injured were yet to be established at the time of filing this report. Preliminary information suggests that all four are residents of neighbouring Sundargarh district.
Police reached the accident site soon after receiving information and have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the collision. Further details are awaited.
