Malkangiri: In a tragic incident, two minor girls died after drowning in Balimela reservoir in Malkangiri district on Friday.
The shocking incident took place in Kenduguda village of Nakamamudi Panchayat under Korukonda block.
According to reports, four children went to the reservoir to take a bath on Thursday afternoon.
A shadow of mourning has been played across the region.
While bathing, two of them named Sabitri Muduli (7), Dabili Kadangia (6) slipped into deep water and went missing.
Villagers and Chitrakonda fire brigade launched a search in the presence of police and local tehsildar. They failed to trace the girl till evening.
The bodies of the two girls were recovered on Friday morning and the police sent them for autopsy.
A pall of gloom descended on the locality following the tragic incident.
