Bhubaneswar: A tragic incident has shaken Bhuinpada village under Nuagaon Panchayat in Remuna Block of Balasore, as two 10-year-old girls drowned while bathing in a village pond on Sunday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Annapurna Mallick (10), daughter of Sanjay Mallick, and Anyasha Mallick (10), daughter of Sujit Mallick. The two cousins had gone to the pond around 11 AM to take a bath when they slipped and drowned.
Family members noticed the girls were missing and later found them in the pond. They were immediately rushed to the Nilagiri Subdivisional Hospital. However, doctors declared both girls dead on arrival.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the two families and the entire village. Relatives and locals gathered at the hospital, where an atmosphere of profound grief prevailed as the news spread.
Police officials visited the spot and the hospital. Further investigation into the exact circumstances of the drowning is underway.
