Baripada: Tension gripped the Rasgobindpur area of Mayurbhanj district after allegations of gang rape involving two tribal minor girls surfaced. The incident reportedly took place under the jurisdiction of Rasgobindpur police station.
According to reports, the victims — students of Class 8 and Class 9 — were allegedly subjected to sexual assault by a group of youths from the same locality.
Police have detained two persons from the Purnachandrapur area in connection with the case, while efforts are underway to trace another accused.
Preliminary reports suggest that around seven to eight persons may have been involved in the incident, though the written complaint mentions five identified accused along with others.
Following the incident, unrest prevailed in the area, prompting police to tighten security around Rasgobindpur police station. Senior officials have reached the spot and are overseeing the investigation.
