Bhubaneswar: Two more individuals have reportedly succumbed to cholera in Jajpur district, Odisha, taking the total death toll to 10.
According to reports, the deceased have been identified as Sudhini Murmu, a one-year-old girl, and Pooja Samad, a 25-year-old woman. Both were residents of the Chhunabhati area in Byasanagar.
They allegedly died while undergoing treatment at Byasanagar Community Health Centre. Pooja Samad was admitted to Byasanagar CHC in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital Bijay Mishra, said, “Currently, 196 diarrheal patients are undergoing treatment in Jajpur, with 37 new admissions reported. At the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), 78 patients are being treated, including one admitted the previous night.”
Mishra noted that while the situation has improved, awareness and precautions are essential. He advised people to wash their hands regularly and consume boiled water. Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the two deaths reported at Vyasanagar Hospital.
